Born in Leipzig in 1982, Max Brand lives and works in Berlin. A 2007 graduate of HfG Offenbach and 2010 graduate of Städelschule Frankfurt/Main, he has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the United States. A truly multidisciplinary artist known for densely energetic, vibrantly colorful paintings integrating a diverse range of media from traditional oil and acrylic paint to ones less readily associated with fine art such as chalk, markers, pens, and spray paint, Brand combines multiple such works to create immersive spaces. Through the layering of fabric and paper substrates within a given piece and the subsequent layering of these discrete artworks upon one another – hanging mounted canvases on top of other works painted directly onto walls – Brand extends the dynamism captured within his paintings into the real world. In some cases covering all walls and floors in a space and even incorporating original musical compositions, Brand achieves an uncommon degree of experiential curation in his sensorily consuming works of art.
