Lives and works in Montréal, Quebec

Born in 1994 in Hamilton, Ontario, Alexa Hawksworth today lives and works in Montréal. She earned her BFA from Concordia University in 2020, and has in recent years been featured in solo and group shows in New York and throughout Canada. Hawksworth's paintings tend to be figuratively representational, at an uncommon point of intersection between past and present, a position that seems to color every aspect of her work. Visually striking, her paintings join the vibrant freneticism of Futurism with the hallmarks of contemporary figure painting. Likewise, many of the scenes she creates suggest a temporal dichotomy between nostalgic, tranquil domesticism, and energetic, harsh, mechanical forces. Hawksworth's paintings serve as masterfully rendered allusions to the artifice of our modern age, and our modern selves.
