Owen Rival was born in Toronto, Canada and earned his BFA in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2021. Rival is a recipient of the Dumfries House Residency and the New York Academy of Art Summer Residency and is a member of the Society of Illustrators. Rival is best know for his paintings of quotidian scenes rendered in high contrast and high saturation, made extraordinary through the dramatic glow of neon lights. From flashpoints between adolescence and adulthood, decisions between social conventions and morality, and moments that capture the experience of existence, Owen Rival’s work examines points of no return.
