Born in 1982 in Eitof, Germany, Berlin based Nschotschi Haslinger attended Braunschweig University of Art from 2003-2010, earning a Diploma of Fine Arts under Professor Walter Dahn. Haslinger creates drawings, sculptural works, and performance pieces, and has exhibited extensively throughout Germany. Numerous motifs are shared between her three-dimensional projects and her works on paper, with some sculptures influencing her drawings and some drawings informing subsequent sculptures. Both in drawings and in sculptures Haslinger depicts a darkly warped vision of the world and its inhabitants, centered around viscerally striking deformations of recognizable objects and animals. The power of these works derive from their intensity, such that the most grotesque among them are all the more difficult to look away from.
