Lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany

Born 1990 in Angeles City, Düsseldorf based artist Nicholas Grafia earned his BFA from the University of Munster in 2016, and his MFA from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2019. Grafia is known for figurative paintings full of lively color and composed of smooth, swooping curves which invite the viewer into his work, though this enticing vibrancy belies the somber and sometimes uncomfortable conceptual bases of his art. An accomplished painter, Grafia has in recent years expanded his artmaking towards a more multimedia practice, incorporating performance and time based media installations. These advances, bringing his art into the space inhabited by his audience and relating it directly to the passage of time, transform his work from something static and removed from the living present to an experiential provocation, confronting the viewer with themes and motifs drawn from Grafia's own personal experience and a broader culturally shared one. In recent years Grafia has frequently collaborated with Mikołaj Sobczak
