Bayan Kiwan

Born 1995 in Amman, Jordan

Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY

Born in Amman, Jordan, in 1995, Brooklyn based artist Bayan Kiwan earned her BFA in painting and drawing at the University of Jordan in 2017, and her MFA in art history, gender, and Middle Eastern studies at NYU Gallatin in 2021. Primarily a painter, She mainly creates figurative artwork, often depicting moments of open tenderness and vulnerability. Kiwan uses the subject of the body as a point of entry into the intimacy of human interaction, and as a point of departure towards broader, global scale topics of identity, interconnection, and cultural incongruity.
