J. A. Feng

Born 1982 in Champaign, IL

Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY

Born in 1982 in Champaign, Illinois, Brooklyn based artist J.A Feng earned her BFA in industrial design from the University of Illinois in 2004, and her MFA in painting and printmaking from Boston University in 2015. She has since exhibited widely across the United States, and earned numerous awards and residencies for her art. Feng creates highly saturated, magnified compositions, incorporating familiar forms, recognizable and referential almost to the point of caricature, to engage with universally accessible human emotions and experiences. Working in oil on canvas as well as charcoal on paper, Feng's rich, bold application of tone, texture, and color serve to visually seduce the viewer, contrasting with and disguising the darker hues and uncanny imagery that populate her art.
